I was born in 1968 and come from The Curragh, County Kildare in Ireland. I went to Kilashee and Newbridge College before getting my B.Sc. in Architecture (with distinction in thesis) from the Dublin Institute of Technology in 1992. I have worked as an architect in Dublin, London, Paris and Berlin as well as Bangkok and Singapore. I did my M.Sc. in Urbanism at TU Delft, graduating cum laude in 2004. This was followed by a PhD in Architecture Theory. I then worked in Architecture Theory at TU Delft while also being a Research Fellow at the International Institute for Asian Studies in Leiden. In 2016 I moved to the Spatial Planning and Strategy section of the Urbanism Department where I am Assistant Professor. I teach and conduct research, primarily concerned with the Asian built environment (particularly East and Southeast Asia) and also issues around citizenship. I also write and illustrate books, and in my spare time I paint watercolours and play the piano.
